Excerpt from "Song" by John Donne

The following was brought to my attention by a friend of mind, who added it to my notebook (02/22/06). It was too good to leave behind, therefore, it has found itself here.

      go and catch a falling star,
            get with child a mandrake root,
      tell me where all past years are,
            or who cleft the Devil's foot;

      teach me to hear mermaids singing,
            or to keep off envy's stinging,
and find
      what wind
            serves to advance an
                                          honest mind...
                                                                          - John Donne
